Trade Centre UK has helped over 800 children across the UK, by raising more than £30,000 sponsoring Childline’s ‘One Unforgettable Day’ campaign, a day during which every call, text or message from a child in need is answered.
Trade Centre UK has pledged to support the campaign for five years and prides itself in helping to facilitate a whole 24-hours of counselling services, where 800 children to speak to an impartial advisor.
During Trade Centre UK’s ‘One Unforgettable Day’, there were 337 new Childline accounts created and 25 ‘Ask Sam’ letters, an anonymous Agony Aunt service, were submitted.
A counsellor for Childline, speaking to a girl from West Midlands. She said: “I had a 1-2-1 chat with a 14-year-old girl today who told me that she was feeling lonely and isolated due to experiencing difficulties at home and at school.
“She told me that she has been spending a lot of time on her own which has resulted in her feeling low and feeling like she is worthless.
“She confided in me that she has self-harmed before to let all of her feelings out. We explored her coping techniques and she told me about some of her hobbies and things she enjoys doing. She told me it had been helpful to talk things through and that she planned to focus on something she enjoys after our chat. I told her that she could come back to talk to Childline anytime and she thanked me and told me she would come back to us when she was ready to talk more.”
During Trade Centre UK’s ‘One Unforgettable Day, the team at the NSPCC’s volunteer-led call centre spoke to over 800 children aged 12-15, 18% boys and 82% girls. At the end of the day, 29% of counsellors reported calls about mental health, 15% about suicidal thoughts, and 12% about family relationships.
Camilla Wood, partnerships manager at the NSPCC, said: “For many children reaching out to Childline, Trade Centre UK’s ‘One Unforgettable Day’ became the day they found a listening ear, saw a way forward, and took back control. The sponsorship from Trade Centre UK made that day possible, and we could not be more grateful for the continued support.
“On behalf of those 800 children and everyone at Childline and the NSPCC, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for making sure children across the UK had a place to turn in their time of need. Our volunteers are the beating heart of what we do, and without sponsorship from companies like Trade Centre UK we wouldn’t be able to run the service we do to the high standard the children who call us deserve.”
